Native American Tool and Flint Knapping Workshop
During the flint knapping workshop students will take a voyage back in time, learning the ancient skill of stone tool making.The flint knapping class will begin by looking into how rocks break. We will address the major rules for reduction. Working with Glass and Flint class participants will focus on the proper form and early stages of reduction which include percussion flaking, and bi-facing. The more advanced techniques including; pressure flaking and notching will be demonstrated by instructor and used depending on participant’s previous experience.Tools and materials will be provided and each student will receive a flint knapping tool kit to take home.

Don't have a laboratory in your basement or an Oceanic Research Vessel in your backyard? Don’t worry, here at the Marine Science Consortium we understand the challenges parents face when they teach science in the home. The Marine Science Consortium is your resource for bridging the gap between marine science curriculum and student understanding. Our Homeschoolers Workshops are tailored for the budding Marine Biologist in your home. Our workshops provide hands-on observation of marine environments and life forms as well as time to socialize with other young marine biologist. This 2 day Learning Vacation is all-inclusive. Meal and Lodging are all included in one low cost. Admission Fee: $95/child- $65/Adult

Birding Field Class
Experience the beauty of the islands of the Eastern Shore while birding in this unique location. In this birding field class, we will go birding at several hot spots. Not only will we explore the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge’s back country on Assateague Island, we will also take a boat ride through marsh creeks to observe waterfowl. Novice and experience birders alike will enjoy this class. We will learn tips for identification through with size, shape, wing outline, behavior and voice. Admission Fee: $35/person
